#YourLifeMatters – Theatre Helps Young People Explore The Harsh Realities of Youth Violence

Over the summer The REP and our Lightpost Theatre group have been working with First Class Legacy to deliver a summer programme for young people. The programme culminates next week with a performance on Tuesday 27 August by The REP's Lightpost Theatre, entitled Mally - a story about a young man facing a variety of obstacles on his journey to manhood.

This project aims to positively engage young people to let them know that 'your life matters' as well as helping them to make positive decisions around how to stay safe in the current climate of youth violence. Theatre, drama, role-play, storytelling and peer involvement from Lightpost Theatre have all helped facilitate these sessions.

On 7 May 2019, a young man was fatally shot in Birmingham. First Class Legacy's outreach team and staff supported over 80 young people that were in attendance of a candle-lit prayer vigil, to commemorate the life of the young man that had tragically passed away. Subsequently, we created therapeutic forum spaces for young people to express and speak about the seven stages of grief.

MALLY - a story about a young man facing a variety of obstacles on his journey to manhood takes place at the Ladywood Health Centre on Tuesday 27 August 2019, 6:30 - 8:30 pm. The performance will be followed by a workshop exploring how young people make choices and decisions. Entry is free and refreshments will be provided.  We hope you will be able to join us for this #YourLifeMatters event.
